Indian Cricket League is an endeavour undertaken by the Essel Group for the
promotion of cricket within India. It is a Rs.100 croce based project undertaken
by the Essel Group under the leadership of Subhash Chandra in an effort to
capitalise the cricket scenario in India, and encourage international level
cricket amongst the young cricket talent.
Cricket is more a religion than a sport in India. Most youngsters dream of
walking on the footsteps of their cricket heroes, but circumstances and lack of
opportunities could shatter it. ICL basically intends to provide the much
necessitated amenities by the younger bunch of cricket players in order to
develop international standards of the sport.
This endeavour basically catapults the dream cocooned within several young
talent spread throughout India. Launch of Indian Cricket League relies on 3D’s:
-
Discovery
-
Diligence
-
Display
Working upon these 3 D’s, Indian Cricket League endeavours to promote
talented young cricketers in the making. It would not restrict to mere few
players like the Authorities governing the different spheres of the sport. The
league intends to provide exposure to a large number of cricket talents. This
would be beneficial in creating an additional team of players to match
international level. For embarking upon this dream, several academies would be
set-up so as to guide the young cricketers that have been selected by the talent
scouts of the ICL.
ICL the abbreviated form of Indian Cricket League would work parallel to the
BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). This private cricket league has
also invited several international level players like Brian Lara, Javed Miandad
to be a part of this big project.
Some of the big names in the world of cricket like Kapil Dev, Tony Greig, Kiran More constitute the executive board of
Indian Cricket League.
Emergence of this private cricket league is seen by many as a counterattack
of the existing cricket board. However, it’s only in the future that anything of
the sort can actually be deciphered.
