Unlike the conventional cricket organization, ICL officials constitute the
former cricketers like Kapil Dev, Tony Greig, Dean Jones, and Kiran More amid
others to the top-most positions. This is done so with the intention of
employing officials who are well-aware of the sport and can get a better
understanding as to the needs and requirements of the players. This approach
would thereby facilitate improvement in the performance and standard of cricket
amongst players. Even Himanshu Modi, the head of Zee Sports is also one of the
top officials of the ICL.
ICL officials are basically a group of players of repute who have designed
policies to meet the standard of organisations. These officials are instrumental
in selection of players from all corners of the country, and making a division
of 6 teams. These teams are expected to compete with each other in the month of
November, 2007 at Chennai for the inaugural season.
Initially the ICL
officials were busy in finding stadiums for tournaments. This task was making
things even more difficult owing to the stiff competition and the pressurization
of the BCCI on its affiliates for not giving out stadiums to the League. But
the assistance offered by a private resort in Chennai came just in time. The
upcoming tournament would be conducted in this private resort with the name
‘Mayajaal’, which is equipped with all the amenities required by the sport. This
tournament would mark the inaugural season of the league, and attaches a lot of
importance to the new cricket body.
The League is very well-aware of the difficulties that lay in its way, yet
its very optimist about its future. It is assumed that within a span of 5-10
years, ICL would give a tough competition to BCCI both in influence as well in
terms of revenue.
